Annual Spring Benefit on May 4 at Wee Burn Beach Club, Rowayton
Opus for Person-to-Person today announced that its 2013 Spring benefit, “The Julep Ball,” will be held on Saturday, May 4, at the Wee Burn Beach Club in Rowayton. The event, which supports Person-to-Person, will coincide with and celebrate The Kentucky Derby, “the greatest two minutes in sports.”
A 5:30 p.m. start will allow attendees to enjoy the televised horse race and partake in a number of related activities that will raise money for approximately 22,000 individuals in need from neighboring communities that Person-to-Person supports on an annual basis.
After an exciting broadcast of the race, the party will continue with a Southern-inspired dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and a few special surprises. Auction items will include luxury vacation getaways, VIP sports packages, spa indulgences and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
A Connecticut-based bluegrass trio called “The People” will entertain guests during the opening hours while the Kentucky Derby is run (post time is approximately 6:24 p.m.) and during the silent auction. After dinner and the live auction, a DJ will entertain the crowd for the rest of the evening. Jackets are required for gentlemen, and Derby-style hats are encouraged for women.
“Bluegrass, mint juleps and other Derby traditions will set the tone for an unforgettable ‘day at the races and night on The Sound,’” said Sarah Konecke, Co-President of Opus for Person-to-Person. “The spring benefit is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we’re thrilled to continue supporting Person-to-Person and our neighbors in need.”
Event chairwomen Sarah Caras, Nicole Harder, Elizabeth Hole and Catherine Webb have been working closely with Board Liaison, Tori Bolger and The Julep Ball committee to create a remarkable evening that will build on the successes of previous benefits. Last year’s gala, dubbed “The Crystal Ball,” raised close to $130,000 for Person-to-Person.
Proceeds from The Julep Ball will go to Person-to-Person’s Emergency Assistance Program, which is the core of their services. This program provides gently-used clothing, groceries for nutritious meals and financial assistance for rent, security deposits and utility bills.
Tickets to The Julep Ball will go on sale in early March 2013. Details on purchasing tickets and attending the event will be available on the Opus for Person-to-Person website: www.opus4p2p.org.
