Our Emergency Food Pantry provides enough groceries for clients to prepare three meals a day for seven days, including a variety of non-perishable items, milk, fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. Volunteers accompany clients as they self-select grocery items or pack grocery orders for clients to pick up. (Clients who are residents of Stamford, Darien and New Canaan are referred to P2P by other agencies and social workers.)
Our Clothing Center is a free “store” where clients can shop every thirty days for shoes, clothing, outerwear, linens and small household goods. All items are donated and those made available are seasonally appropriate as well as clean and in good condition. (Available to all by appointment.)
Layettes including basic supplies such as diapers, clothing, bibs, bottles and infant toys are prepared for new mothers who are referred by hospital social workers in Norwalk and Stamford. Members of OPUS for Person-to-Person, a fundraising and awareness building volunteer group, and other volunteers, deliver the layettes to the hospital.
Grants and Loans
Person-to-Person caseworkers assess immediate need and help clients plan for the future while providing financial assistance for rent, utilities, childcare, skills training, some medical expenses, security deposits and eviction prevention. (Available to residents of Stamford, Darien and New Canaan.)
While we do not accept furniture in Darien, we do have a furniture program running out of CCA: A program of Person-to-Person in Norwalk.
Our Darien location does not accept furniture (cribs, beds, chairs, tables, dressers, desks, etc.) of any kind. We do not accept sporting equipment, bicycles, strollers or similar items. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY OF THESE ITEMS AT P2P in Darien– because the time required for our volunteers to dispose of these items takes them away from the necessary and important work of assisting the people who come to us for help.
