About Person-to-Person

Established in 1968, Person-to-Person (“P2P” – www.p2phelps.org) P2P is a community-supported agency that provides assistance to individuals and families as they move toward economic stability.  The vision that guides P2P’s work is “thriving, hunger free homes”. With a financial budget of approximately $5MM, an additional $10MM in annual “in-kind” donations, and over 75,000 volunteer hours donated annually, P2P is a well-established and innovative agency. More than 90% of all donations go directly to programs, which include three food pantries including a mobile food pantry (P2P on Wheels), a clothing center, a Financial Opportunity Center™ and counseling for a client’s situational crisis, summer camperships for children, and college and vocational scholarship aid to students seeking to change the trajectory of the next generation.

Position Summary

Person-to-Person seeks a friendly and efficient part-time Clothing Center Manager.  Reporting to the Darien Site Manager, the Clothing Center Manager duties include face-to-face customer service, volunteer management and more. The Clothing Center Manager will welcome and assist donors with donations, work alongside adult and teen volunteers to maintain a clean, well-organized work environment and ensure a warm and respectful experience for all Clothing Center clientele. S/he will provide crucial support to P2P programs such as the annual holiday Toy Store and propose additional initiatives.  The Clothing Center Manager will manage the annual inventory process for the audit. The ideal candidate will be an organized self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, a desire to improve the lives of others, a calm disposition, an abundance of energy and enthusiasm and a sense of humor.  S/he will be a quick learner, flexible, collaborative and enjoy working alongside a wide variety of people.  P2P seeks candidates with a connection to P2P’s mission as well as the workplace values of diversity and respect.  Come join a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers who make a difference in people’s lives.

Hours are Tuesday – Friday, 9 AM – 2 PM and Saturdays 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A commitment to the mission and activities of P2P;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication and diplomacy;
  • Self-motivated and customer service oriented in a fast-paced volunteer, client and donor-focused environment;
  • Responsible and accountable, able to work unsupervised while still contributing to a team;
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a good aptitude for logistics and operations;
  • Initiative to plan and implement programs while managing committees of volunteers;
  • Ability to manage volunteers, including students and teens;
  • Positive “can-do” attitude, flexibility and willingness to adapt to change;
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching above shoulders, and or other physical activities, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. assisted or unassisted;
  • Ability to work Saturdays;
  • English required, Spanish or Haitian Creole language strongly preferred.

The Clothing Center Manager position is part time, 25 hours per week.  Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM and Saturdays 8:30 am – 1:30 PM.  Some flexibility in weekday hours is possible.  The salary for this position is $22/ hour.
