Position Summary

Person to Person seeks a per diem staff to provide assistance to volunteers and direct service staff in one of three community based food pantries: Darien, Norwalk or Stamford. Guided by a strong and sincere commitment to P2P’s mission, per diem food pantry staff will ensure uninterrupted service to our food pantry clients on an as-needed basis during times of extraordinary need, or to cover for staff absences, due to vacation or otherwise.

Per diem staff will assist with all aspects of food distribution to P2P clients, including packing groceries, interacting with clients, supporting food and/or clothing donors, food rescue efforts and food drives with logistical support and stocking and restocking inventory.  Some per diem staff will pick up donations or food purchases using P2P’s van.

Per diem staff will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience and a strong work ethic. S/he will be flexible, energetic and engaging, with an upbeat disposition and a ‘can do’ approach.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A commitment to the mission and activities of P2P;
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. while twisting, bending and squatting, remaining on your feet for at least four hours;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication and diplomacy;
• Ability to work alongside volunteers and get along with all types of people;
• Commitment to excellent customer service and treating customers and clients with dignity and respect;
• Superior work ethic;
• Flexibility, warmth and a sense of humor.

This position is on-site, per diem and is not eligible for benefits.
