The Award Recognizes the Outstanding Service Commitment of a Stamford College Student

Darien, CONN (January 18, 2021) – Person-to-Person (P2P) is pleased to announce that Stamford resident Imani Morgan has been awarded this year’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.

P2P’s Dr. King Scholarship award is given to students who are a senior in college and who have demonstrated outstanding ability in community service, leadership, and who have a capacity to articulate his/her ideals. This year’s recipient, Ms. Morgan, exemplifies all these traits and more.

Ms. Morgan is currently a senior at the University of Connecticut, with an individualized major of Health, Minorities, and Inequality. Her major exemplifies her commitment to bring attention to, and create change for, communities that are adversely impacted by our current health care system. She saw first-hand the inequities during service missions with Hearts Over Latin America, witnessing the lack of medical care for people due to where they live and who they are.

Her dedication to this important work has magnified since the pandemic, seeing the severe and systemic inequities that exist. She explains, “People of color, the elderly, homeless people, and people who are now unemployed have been left very vulnerable to this virus.” The deadly virus has also affected her personally, when she lost her grandmother to the disease in April 2020.

“Imani is an incredibly impressive young woman,” shares P2P CEO Nancy Coughlin. “We are honored to know her and thrilled to be able to highlight and support her commitment to helping underserved and marginalized communities.”

The P2P Dr. King Scholarship is part of P2P’s overall Scholarship Program, first established in 1968. The program is dedicated to providing financial assistance to college students from low-income households, many of whom are the first in their family to pursue higher education. With the Dr. King Scholarship, to recognize a student’s outstanding achievements, each student is awarded $1,000. The award will be presented to Ms. Morgan during The Ferguson Library’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 91st Celebration virtual event on Monday, January 18, 2021.
