Most of us have said those very words after a summer filled with camp, picnics, time with family, and trips to museums, pools and the beach. But for low-income families right here in Lower Fairfield County, summer can be a time of worry and stress. Already struggling to make ends meet, families are unable to afford the high cost of additional summer childcare, while also paying for basic necessities, such as food, utilities and rent.
For children in the Person-to-Person Campership Program, summer is filled with engaging activities and academic enrichment – reading and field trips, sports and nature, technology and the arts, fitness and creativity, exploration and adventure. These exciting experiences and new friendships will allow children to see the world in a whole new way. A summer at camp strengthens a child’s academic performance and helps close the opportunity gap.
The P2P Campership Program positively impacts the entire family, helping to maintain financial stability by enabling parents to continue to work and providing them with peace of mind that their children are cared for and safe.
For $600 for the summer – just $100 a week – Person-to-Person will provide scholarships for elementary school children to attend local day camp programs, allowing them to experience the magic of summer fun and learning opportunities.
