Boat Camp Day is one of our very favorite days of the year! This annual event, sponsored by Darien Sail & Power Squadron and hosted by Noroton Yacht Club, brings together dozens of volunteers and boat owners, including The Darien Police and Fire Department Marine Units, for a special cause: sharing their love of the water with a group of campers from ROSSCO Camp in Stamford. ROSSCO Camp is one of the many wonderful camps that families who are a part of our Campership program can choose from.
On July 26, forty ROSSCO campers boarded 13 boats for a fun excursion around the Sound, visiting Sheffield Island Lighthouse, Fish Island, and Ziegler’s Cove. This was the first time on a boat for many of the kids and the experience opened them up to a whole new world. Despite living close to the Sound, this was the first opportunity that many of them have had to learn about it hands-on. While out on the water, they learned about water safety and lighthouses, went fishing and even spotted a fish hawk and an oyster catcher! Thank you to all who joined together to create these special memories!
