The P2P Grant is Part of United Way’s COVID-19 Resiliency Grant Program

STAMFORD, CT (July 22, 2021) – Person-to-Person (P2P) is pleased to confirm that United Way of Western Connecticut has awarded P2P $11,000 as part of its COVID-19 Resiliency Grant Program for work with our Stamford-based programs.

The COVID-19 Resiliency Grants are just one part of a coordinated, region-wide effort by United Way of Western Connecticut to alleviate the economic hardships experienced by our area’s residents as a result of the pandemic. Since March of 2020, United Way of Western CT has worked diligently with community partners like P2P to help provide assistance for those people most impacted by the crisis, identified as ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed).

“Person-to-Person is grateful for the generous and ongoing support from United Way of Western Connecticut,” shared P2P CEO Nancy Coughlin. “Their COVID-19 Resiliency Grant Program has been instrumental in helping P2P support the thousands of individuals and families we serve in our Stamford location.”

P2P has played a vital role in supporting residents of lower Fairfield County throughout the pandemic, providing essential resources such as healthy food, emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities, caseworker support, as well as clothing and enrichment programs. P2P not only provided for its existing clients, it met the increased need brought on by the pandemic. P2P’s food program, for example, distributed 71% more groceries in the 12 months after the pandemic started, the equivalent of more than two million meals (roughly 5,831 meals a day).

P2P’s Emergency Financial Assistance increased an astounding 178%. As more people lost jobs, experienced reduced hours, or succumbed to the COVID themselves, making rent payments became more and more difficult. In the first 12 months following the start of the pandemic, P2P issued $1,043,897 in emergency financial assistance, mostly for rent, to help keep families safely housed during this crisis.
