Volunteers and mail carriers in Darien teamed up on Saturday for a “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.

The drive was sponsored by the nonprofit organization Person to Person. Volunteers sorted through food donation bags mail carriers dropped off from residents in Darien, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton.

P2P organized the donation collection with mail carriers who collected donations on their mail routes. Once they were picked up, they were then dropped off at centers for volunteers to sort.

“It’s a huge amount of work but we’re so grateful because the food from this food drive will stock our shelves for months and it’s food that we really need,” said Nancy Coughlin, CEO of Person To Person. “Demand is as high as it’s ever been, we are running through. We just can’t keep up with the amount of people coming to us for food.”
