At Person to Person (P2P), we’re thrilled to announce the exciting expansion of our P2P on Wheels program with the launch of a second mobile food pantry. This addition doubles our capacity to serve families and individuals across Stamford, delivering fresh groceries and essential support services directly to neighborhoods in need.
Along with nutritious food, our bilingual caseworkers will be there to help clients access other vital support services including housing, financial assistance, and job training resources.
A Generous Gift Makes It Possible
The second mobile pantry was made possible thanks to a generous $240,000 grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation has given over $1.6 million of charitable support to P2P. Their support will help ensure that P2P can continue meeting the growing needs of the Stamford community, expanding its reach to more individuals and neighborhoods where it is needed most.
A Crucial Time for Stamford
This expansion is especially vital as about 12% of Stamford residents face food insecurity. Many families also experience barriers like limited access to transportation, making it hard to reach traditional food pantries. Our second mobile pantry will help address these challenges by bringing food and support services directly to underserved neighborhoods, including offering evening and weekend hours to better accommodate working families.
A Lifeline for Stamford Families
For Stamford mother Tamara Francis and her two children, our mobile pantry has been a lifeline. “When I saw P2P’s mobile pantry in Stamford for the first time, it felt like a lifeline. As a mother, you always want to provide for your children, but sometimes life throws challenges your way that you never expected,” Tamara shared. “P2P has been there for us through the hardest times, and the support they’ve given me and my family goes beyond just food—it’s peace of mind and hope for a better future.”
Former Board Chair Mike Riccardi and A Community Effort
In 2023, when Mike Riccardi was Person to Person Board Chair, he initiated this project and helped raise vital funds to make it a reality. We’re deeply grateful to him, along with our many volunteers and community partners, for making this expansion possible.
Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The addition of the second mobile food pantry is a vital asset to help combat food insecurity in our city, and I am proud to stand with P2P in their mission to serve our most vulnerable residents.”
