As the partial government shutdown reaches the one month mark, Person-to-Person is here to help the people who need it most in our community.
Today, we welcomed Rep. Jim Himes. He stopped at our Darien Food Pantry on his way to Washington to hear from us how our community is impacted by the federal shutdown and how P2P can help in the short and long term.

We shared that P2P is waiving income guidelines for our food pantry for federal employees affected by the shutdown. Federal employees will need to show their federal employee ID card. Our program can provide a week’s worth of food for the size of the family, covering three healthy homemade meals a day. Federal employees can access any of our three food pantries located in Darien, Norwalk, and Stamford. Federal employees are encouraged to contact us directly at info@p2phelps.org.
Another concern is the impact a prolonged shutdown will have on current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. We remain hopeful the shutdown won’t continue long enough for SNAP recipients to lose benefits. If that happens, P2P will be ready to help serve those families with basic needs, from food and clothing to financial assistance, to help pay utilities or rent.
