At the last meeting of the Person-to-Person Board of Directors before the summer hiatus, we honored departing Board members Michael Estock (Treasurer), Chad Graves, Camille Spaulding and Martina Tucker (Scholarship Committee Chair), thanking them for their service. At the same time, P2P welcomed five new members and elected a new Board president.
Avery Whidden, a Board member since 2011 and long-time supporter of Person-to-Person, will serve as Board president for the next two years. A native of Connecticut, Whidden is a Managing Director at J. P. Morgan in the Financial Sponsors Group where he advises leading global private equity firms. Given his business expertise and a commitment to community service, the agency, which is actively exploring expansion of its locations to better serve its client base, will be well-served by Whidden’s leadership.
Amy Gold may be new to the Board but she is a seasoned volunteer and, with her husband Joe, a strong supporter of P2P. For close to 10 years, Gold has volunteered in the P2P Clothing Center – where she receives, sorts and displays donations and assists clients.
A former president of the Stamford NAACP and member of the Connecticut NAACP board, Michael Hyman currently serves as Executive Director of the Chester Addison Community Center, a vibrant community hub that inspires the social and emotional growth and well-being of over 200 Stamford youth.
Valerie McNeil is a lifelong resident of Stamford, where she attended the public schools. An active member of the Greater Stamford community, McNeil works at Stamford-based Cytec Solvay Group and is a licensed real estate professional at William Raveis. McNeil has been a member of the Stamford Board of Representatives since 2008.
A founding partner at Casper & De Toledo in Stamford, Victoria de Toledo has been practicing law in Connecticut since 1981. She has been recognized by her peers by being accepted into the prestigious College of Labor & Employment Lawyers and the highly selective American College of Trial Lawyers. Having been actively involved in the civil rights field since the 1970s, de Toledo has lectured extensively about employment law here in Connecticut and throughout the country.
Betsy Wilson, a CFA charterholder and member of the Stamford CFA Society and the CFA Institute, is a Director in the Investments division of Commonfund, an asset management firm for nonprofits. Wilson, who is actively involved in many community organizations, first became involved with the agency when she joined Opus for Person-to-Person, serving as a Board member and co-president.
