Below is information about the scholarships for which you may be eligible. Please note, we are only accepting applications from Stamford public school students.

All applicants, if eligible, are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and are interviewed as part of the screening process. Grants are distributed once a year for both semesters.

The Scholarship application process begins April 1 at 9am and ends May 11 at 11:30pm. Recipients are notified of their awards in August. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need and reside in Stamford.

The prompts for special scholarship requirements can be found at the end of the general application. Students are encouraged to apply for as many of the special Scholarships for which they qualify. However, only one Scholarship will be awarded to a student. There are a limited number of Scholarships available. Not all students who apply will receive a Scholarship.

2026 Scholarship Application Information

The Person to Person Scholarship Program is a need-based awards granting program. Only applicants demonstrating financial need are eligible for a scholarship.

Eligibility requirements for 2026 applicants: Person to Person is partnering with Stamford public schools to award a small number of special named scholarships.

Eligibility:

  • Must be attending an undergraduate program at a two- or four-year accredited post-secondary school for the 2026/2027 school year.
  • Must be enrolled full-time, 12 or more credits per semester.
  • Must reside in Stamford.
  • Must be able to demonstrate financial need.

Applications must be submitted by 11:30pm May 11, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Person to Person Scholarship Program

The Person to Person Scholarship Program, established in 1968, currently provides financial assistance for Stamford high school graduates from low-income households.

Requirements: To be considered for this scholarship, students who are eligible for federal financial aid are required to provide their Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA, a financial aid award letter from their College/University and a copy of their most recent grades. This is the primary Scholarship application and is required for all Scholarship awards – including the special Scholarships listed below.

P2P STEM Scholarship

The Person to Person STEM Scholarship will be granted to a student pursuing a major or minor degree in one of the following: science, technology, engineering, mathematics or medicine. The Person to Person STEM Scholarship awards $5,000 per year.

Requirements: P2P STEM Scholarship applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a demonstrated need for scholarship assistance in the amount of $5,000 or more. This application requires an essay.

Lockhart Family Charitable Trust Scholarship for Academic Excellence

The Lockhart Scholarship was established in 2004 and will be granted to a student with an excellent academic record who is one of the first in his or her family to attend college. The Lockhart Scholarship awards $5,000 per year.

Requirements: Lockhart Family Charitable Trust Scholarship for Academic Excellence applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This application requires an essay.

ELH Scholarship

This award will be granted to a student who is highly motivated to both achieve a higher education and give back to their community. The ELH Scholarship awards $2,000 per year.

Requirements: To qualify, a student must also be a parent, or have faced a significant illness in their family. This application requires a written response to a series of questions. Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Napolitano Family Scholarship

The Napolitano Family Scholarship was established in 2005 and is funded through the Janet Evans Endowment Fund. The amount available for scholarships is based on the value and performance of the Endowment Fund. This award, currently $5,000, is granted to a student with an excellent academic record who has a commitment to learning and a dedication to success.

Requirements: Napolitano Family Scholarship applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This application requires an essay.

Philip T. (Pete) Wright Memorial Scholarship

The Philip T. (Pete) Wright Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 in memory of Pete Wright, a former board member and active supporter of P2P.  The two annual $5000 scholarships are awarded to students from low-income families who meet the requirements of the Person to Person Scholarship program. 

Requirements: Philip T. (Pete) Wright Memorial Scholarship applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This application requires a written response.

Frequently Asked Questions

The P2P Scholarship Program offers several special named scholarships, which each have their own specific eligibility requirements. All students are only allowed to receive one scholarship per year.

beginning on April 1, 2026 at 9am. All applicants must complete the appropriate online application and provide the required supplementary documents.

For the special scholarships, you must complete the general application and answer the appropriate essay prompt at the end of the application. You may apply for as many awards as you feel you are eligible for, but you are only allowed to receive one award per year.

Each student must provide the following:

  • A copy of their most recent transcript (can be unofficial)
  • A copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA, if eligible. If not eligible you must provide a short letter stating the reason
  • A copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter from your school
  • A copy of your Fall 2026 school bill

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 depending on which award you apply for. The average award is $2,000 for the school year, disbursed $1,000 per semester. All scholarship are only guaranteed for one year and are payable directly to your school.

Students who have received a P2P scholarship are encouraged to re-apply each year. All students, even those that are returning, are required to complete an application, provide the necessary supplemental documents, and attend an interview or they will not be eligible to receive an award. Returning students will be given priority, but must be in good academic standing to be eligible.

Yes, after applications are reviewed, selected students may be moved onto the interview round. If there is a need for an interview, a student will meet with one of our volunteer interview teams to review their applications and discuss their plans for school, finances, and ways they can help P2P improve the overall program.

Interview dates will range between May and July, depending on the scholarship you have applied for. If you apply for more than one scholarship, you may be required to do more than one interview.

Students that are selected to receive an award will be notified in August.
